Submitted by on February 9, 2011 No Comment

The very first step towards building a ‘free business listing’ website is to get yourself acquainted with what a business listing website is. A business listing website can be defined as the online equivalent of a business directory which people use to locate businesses in a particular area. It is not very difficult to get along with the rest of the task if you do not let this out of your mind.

Second step is to find a hosting service. There is no dearth of hosting services available and you can decide upon one which suits you the most. Selection of a hosting service is usually determined by two main factors: reliability and costs.

The next step is to finalize a name for your website. It involves deciding whether your website will be called http://www.XXXX.com/ or http://www.YYYY.com/ and so on. Usually, the names of business listing websites are either after the geographical areas they represent or some other peculiarity of the area.

Having done that you will need to select one of the many blogging platforms for your website. The choice of a blogging platform determines what your website looks like. You can either opt for a readymade platform or decide to build your own. There are some free scripts available online for free. You can give them a try.

After that, you need to figure out the ‘basic categories’ – Mechanics, Teachers, Tutors and similar stuff – that you will require. This is not a very complicated thing to do. You can either choose to concentrate on a particular industry or make your site more general by including all kinds of businesses. To fill in these categories is not always a very simple business if you want quality. You will need to capture information from all sources – from friends, relatives to paper business directories – without compromising on quality. To do this you may need to check some or all this links on you website to make sure they are functioning properly and taking the visitor to the right location.

Once you have all the data at your disposal, it is upon you to decide what information to provide and what not. It is standard practice to include the name, address, telephone number and website or email address. In addition to that, you may also leave some space for consumer reviews or mention what is special about some of the famous businesses. It is also not a bad idea to have a special space on the website where new businesses can submit data about themselves. Finish this job and your website is ready to use.

If creating a website is important, maintaining it so that it functions well it important too. When you build a website you are given a back end access. This back end access allows you to make changes in the site. For example, you through back end access you update your website, add in new listings, change the way your site looks and do other modifications. And unlike building a business listings website, maintaining it is not a one time job.
